What this record cannot show
This page is built from what court clerks recorded in cases where Jason Brost was counsel of record. Some of what you may want to know is not in that record.
- Matters not of court record. Cases settled before counsel of record was entered, and federal court cases. This is the Virginia state-court record only.
- The work behind an outcome. Evidence quality, witness cooperation, client circumstances, motion practice, plea strategy, and sentencing advocacy. The record shows outcomes, not the work that produced them.
- Quality of representation. Outcomes reflect the recorded facts of cases, not the quality of advocacy. Past outcomes do not predict future results.
- Hired or appointed. The court’s counsel-type field is not reliable, so this page does not say whether Jason Brost was retained or court-appointed in any case.
- Whether every spelling was matched. Clerks enter attorney names by hand. Name variants are merged only when confirmed, so some cases may sit under a spelling not yet linked to this page.
- The judge and the prosecutor. Virginia’s court records do not carry the judge’s name, and they name the prosecutor’s office rather than the individual prosecutor.
- Cases filed before 2025. This page counts cases filed in 2025. A case filed earlier and tried in 2025 is not here.
- Guilty plea or trial in General District Court. District court records do not say whether a conviction came by plea or after a trial. Only the Circuit Court figures on this page make that distinction.
- Fairfax Circuit Court. The 19th Judicial Circuit (Fairfax County, Fairfax City, Falls Church) keeps its own case system outside the statewide record. District cases for those three jurisdictions are included; circuit cases are not.
Every figure on this page comes from Virginia’s public court records as read on August 24, 2026. Coverage notes and definitions are in the methodology. If something here is wrong, tell us and we will check the record.

Methodology
Cases are counted by defense counsel of record as recorded in DCIS (district) and CIS (circuit). Outcomes use the strict definitions published at virginiacourtfile.com/methodology. Resolved includes only cases with final disposition codes (Guilty, Not Guilty, Dismissed, Nolle Prosequi). Convicted is a guilty disposition on the originally filed charge with no amended charge. Reduced is a guilty disposition with a non-empty amended charge field. Dropped combines Dismissed and Nolle Prosequi. Pending cases, certifications, and probation revocations are excluded from the outcome rates above.
