Who We Are

VirginiaCourtFile.com is operated by CourtFile LLC, a Virginia company. Contact us at richard@virginiacourtfile.com.

Information We Collect

When you submit a case review or expungement eligibility form, we collect your phone number (required), and optionally your name and email address. We also collect:

  • Charge type, court/jurisdiction, and charge timing you select on the form
  • The page you submitted from (source URL)
  • IP address (for rate limiting and fraud prevention)
  • UTM parameters and referrer (for analytics)

How We Use Your Information

Your form submission is shared with a participating licensed criminal defense attorney in your area who may contact you by phone, text message, or email about your legal matter. We currently share each submission with a single attorney. We use your information solely to connect you with legal representation.

How we make money. VirginiaCourtFile.com is a publication of Virginia court records. The case review form on this site is an attorney advertising service. We do not currently charge attorneys for the connections we facilitate. We may receive compensation from participating attorneys in the future (typically a flat per-lead fee under our anticipated arrangement). Any such compensation, if implemented, would not change the fact that the initial call with the attorney is offered free of charge and is not a condition of legal representation. Attorneys are responsible for their own legal services and fees, which are separate from any arrangement with us.

We do not:

  • Sell or share your personal information with data brokers, marketers, or anyone other than the matched attorney
  • Share your information with more than one attorney for any single matter
  • Use your information for purposes unrelated to connecting you with legal representation
  • Disclose details of your case to anyone other than the matched attorney without your consent

Note: although we do not transfer your information to data brokers, the sharing of your form submission with a participating attorney — combined with the possibility of compensation from that attorney in the future — may qualify as a "sale" or "share" of personal information under some state privacy laws (including the California Consumer Privacy Act). See the Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information section below for your opt-out rights.

Consent to Contact

By submitting a form on this site, you provide prior express written consent to be contacted by a participating Virginia criminal defense attorney by phone (including auto-dialed and prerecorded calls), SMS text message, and email regarding your legal matter. VirginiaCourtFile.com does not contact defendants by email, phone, or SMS; we share your submitted information with the participating attorney and do not communicate with you directly. Consent is not required to receive services. Standard message and data rates may apply. We retain a verbatim record of the consent disclosure shown to you, your IP address, and the date and time of submission. You may revoke consent at any time by replying STOP to any text message from the attorney, unsubscribing from any email from the attorney, or contacting us at richard@virginiacourtfile.com to request your information be removed.

Data Retention

We retain your submitted information for up to 12 months to facilitate attorney matching and follow-up. After 12 months, your data is deleted unless you request earlier deletion.

Court Data

All court statistics on this site are derived from publicly available Virginia court records. We do not publish individual defendant names or personal information.

Cookies & Analytics

We use the following third-party services:

  • Google Analytics (GA4) — aggregate site traffic analysis. We do not pass your name, phone number, or email to Google Analytics. See Google's Privacy Policy.
  • Google Ads conversion tracking — measures whether ads led to form submissions. We do not pass personal information beyond what is required for conversion attribution.

We use cookies for admin authentication only. We do not use tracking cookies for advertising or retargeting beyond the conversion tracking described above.

Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you
  • Delete your submitted information at any time
  • Opt out of future contact by attorneys matched through our service
  • Revoke consent to being contacted at any time

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at richard@virginiacourtfile.com. We will respond within 30 days.

If you are a Virginia resident, you may have additional rights under the Virginia Consumer Data Protection Act (VCDPA), including the right to opt out of the processing of your personal data. Contact us to exercise these rights.

Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information

VirginiaCourtFile.com does not currently charge attorneys for the connections we facilitate, though we may receive compensation from participating attorneys in the future. We do not transfer your information to data brokers, marketers, or anyone other than the matched attorney, and we do not use your information for any purpose unrelated to connecting you with legal representation. However, because attorneys may pay us in the future when leads connect, this sharing may qualify as a "sale" or "share" of personal information under some state privacy laws (including the California Consumer Privacy Act).

To opt out of having your personal information shared with an attorney, or to request that we delete information we already hold about you, email richard@virginiacourtfile.com with the subject line "Do Not Sell or Share Request" and include the phone number or email you used on the form. We will process your request within 30 days and confirm by email. There is no cost to you for exercising this right, and we will not discriminate against you for doing so.

You may also use a Global Privacy Control (GPC) browser signal to communicate this preference; we honor GPC signals as opt-out requests for users we can identify.

Children's Privacy
